Question & Thought for January 13th, 2016!

Good Wednesday Morning!
1. Question – “You already are the oldest president in history, and some of your staff say you were very tired after your most recent encounter with Mr. Mondale. I recall that President Kennedy had to go for days on end with very little sleep during the Cuba missile crisis. Is there any doubt in your mind that you would be able to function in such circumstances?”
2. Thought - Finally, someone had asked him the question. It was on everyone’s mind – and being discussed all over the media – but nobody had asked it directly of Reagan himself. At age 73, was he indeed too old, or becoming too unfocused, to effectively lead the nation for the second term?
For a split second it seemed the whole country held its breath, waiting to see how President Reagan would respond. “Not at all,” Reagan began. “And I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience!” (emphasis mine).
The eruption and laughter and applause – as well as the look on Walter Mondale’s face – said it all. With this single response, President Reagan had moved from defense to offense, turning his greatest perceived weakness into a real asset, and it became clear in that moment that he had won the debate. (The Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask by Mark Mittelberg)

politics won’t take an interest in you!

Question & Thought for December 17th, 2015!

Good Thursday Morning!
1. Question – What was the motive behind Tuesday’s debate?
2. Thought – You’ve gotta ask yourself, “What is the motive for tonight’s debate?” And once you figure that out, like Mr Trump did, you’ll find it is so obvious that CNN’s motives are to instill feuding, nastiness and destroy Trump. And we are all drinking the cool aid and don’t know it!  Mr. Trump has a desire to make America great again and he has a valid point in that it appears other countries have lost respect for America, but so have we inside the fence. We have lost the ability for civil discourse because we don’t see the motives. We have allowed our media to turn our debates into a national reality shows! And FOX is in it as well.

I watch and listen to younger Americans and this debacle fuels what they are being taught in our liberal high schools and colleges. There are great American minds on that stage and I wish they’d understand the motive of the debate is not to sort out the best candidate on ideas, thinking and our nation.
What was it that Eleanor Roosevelt said?
“Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.”
What was it that Carl Gutav Jung said?
“Thinking is difficult; that’s why most people judge.”
What was it that Ronald Reagan said?
“A nation which cannot control its borders is not a nation.”

Question & Thought for December 7th, 2015!

Good Monday Morning on Pearl Harbor Day!
1. Question – Is the War on Terror a quagmire?
2. Thought – A war of limited goals or restrained tactics was inconceivable. As Vice Resident Henry Wallace declared in 1942, “No compromise with Satan is possible.” Even after the horrific fighting at Iwo Jima in 1945, Americans geared up for an invasion of Japan. Secretary of State James Byrnes told Truman that the president would be “crucified” domestically if the United States abandoned the policy of unconditional surrender and began negotiating with Tokyo. (How We Fight by Dominic Tierney)
“Can the U.S. use force – even go to war – for carefully defined national interests, or do we have to have a moral crusade or a galvanizing event like Pearl Harbor?” (Brent Scowcroft, National Security Advisor to President George H.W. Bush, December 1990)
“I don’t do quagmires.” (Donald Rumsfeld, July 2003)
