Hello October! Two easy questions:
1. Question – When does life begin? And, why does
the brain have wrinkles?
2. Thought – In an early embryo, three basic tissues
provide the foundation for organs and other future body
parts. One of these, called ectoderm, gives the brain its
start. After about three weeks of development a portion of
the embryo’s ectoderm thickens into a neural plate.
By the fourth week of life this structure folds into a
tube that forms the central nervous system, with the
rudimentary brain at the upper end. Initially the brain
hemispheres are smooth, but as the cerebral cortex
develops it becomes deeply folded and convoluted. This
folding helps make the complex human brain compact enough
to fit inside the skull. (The Illustrated Atlas of the
Human Body by Beverly McMillan)

them.”
