Question & Thought for March 6th, 2016!

Good Sunday Morning!!!
1. Question – What does a real friend do?
2. Thought – A real friend is one who overlooks your broken-down gate and admires the flowers in your garden. (Author Unknown)
Friendship’s Flowers
Life is a garden,
good friends are the flowers,
And time spent together,
life’s happiest hours;
For friendship, like flowers,
blooms evermore fair
When carefully tended
by dear friends who care;
And life’s lovely garden
would be sweeter by far
If all who passed through it
were as nice as you are.
(Friendship by Helen Steiner Rice)
Have a great week!

Question – Thought & Idea for November 8th, 2015!!

Good Sunday Morning!!!
Last year in March I sent this email out to you all. And since this is the Thanksgiving Month, and since so many of you responded and sent letters to many people you never knew, and since I remember my mom calling me and saying, ‘Who are all these nice people I don’t know sending me letters and cards?’, and I explained to her and she was overwhelmed and so tickled by this, and since she has now passed last month, and I am reflecting big time, and I am so Thankful to so many of you, I just thought this idea should be re-kindled for this Thanksgiving month. Here goes:
Good Morning!

1. Question – In your house – do you make a big deal out of everything?
2. Thought – My family celebrated everything: birthdays, holidays, Saint’s days, sad times, happy times, anything which would bring the family together. My mother kept a calendar from which you could select almost any day as one for celebration! Every day, after all is someone’s birthday! We had traditional food on designated days: risotto on Sundays, polenta on Fridays. There was the soup pot continually cooking on the stove, setting the air alive with savory aroma changing according to left-overs which were added – pasta one day, peas and carrots the next, some chicken or beef the next. Whether the soup was thick or thin was determined upon Papa’s income that week, Mama’s shopping and the degree of leftovers. The time was always right for a warm bowl of soup. I can taste it still!!! (Loving Each Other by Leo Buscaglia, Ph.D)
3. Idea – I just got an idea. If you know of someone who is having a special day, or who needs encouragement, and you want to make it more special, email me back that person’s address and perhaps we can send that person a card. Don’t just send a card with your name. Put words & feelings in there. Getting cards and letters is nice – we need more surprises! It’s just a idea. For instance, my mom’s birthday is tomorrow, if you want to send her a card, email me back and I will give you her address. If you email the address of someone, I will discreetly share that person’s name with all who desire to write someone & make this endeavor a reality.
Make every day special! Start putting words in letters to people. Much better than love emails, facebook, or twitter.

Email me the address of someone who needs a pick me up and I will make this work.
love,

Question & Thought for October 16th, 2015!!!

Good Friday Morning!
A. Question – As you move along into your second half of life, would you entertain the idea of making commitments in lieu of goals?
B. Thought – One of the consequences of my transition into the second half is that I no longer organize my life in terms of goals. Instead, I now make commitments. I share them here not because they are especially profound, but because they might encourage you to develop a list of commitments for your own life mission:
  1. The primary loyalty of my life is Jesus Christ. I am committed to fully put into play my gifts in service to him.
  2. I am committed to a vital marriage until “death do us part.”
  3. I have committed the majority of my time and money to beginning and developing a series of overlapping ventures which release the latent energy in American Christianity.
  4. I am committed to be an effective steward of the resources entrusted to my care.
  5. I am committed to be a good friend to ten people.
  6. I am committed to have a renaissance in the second half of my life. (Renaissance – a movement or period of vigorous artistic and intellectual activity)
  7. I am committed to practice “altruistic egoism.” (Altruistic egoism means gaining personal satisfaction by helping others. It recognizes self-interest as central to my human design, and it counts as greatest gain the goodwill of one’s neighbors.) (Half-Time by Bob Buford)
”All the good meals we have prepared for you and all you can remember is the one spam dinner.” (Mom)
No texting and driving. Drive defensively! Read. Grow. Make a few commitments & journal them for 21 days.

Question & Thought for October 2nd, 2015!!!

Good rainy and Friday Morning! Boy oh boy, there’s lot to ponder?????
1. Question – Could this be the best job interview question ever?
2. Thought – Alvin Wilson had an unorthodox interviewing style. Occasionally, he would ask a few technical questions, but most of his time was spent in seemingly idle conversation. Finally, at the close of the interview, Alvin would, without exception, ask the same question of each applicant:
Alvin asked to see his tool box.
In each interview, the tool-box inspection was the moment of truth. Alvin Wilson understood the importance of a good tool kit, and he understood that everybody doesn’t own one. That’s why Alvin never hired anybody without first getting a close look at the tools the person used to do his or her work.
If the applicant owned no tools, this was a bad sign. If the tools were broken, lost, or in disarray, Alvin was not impressed. But, if an applicant produced a well-organized and well stocked box of tools, we’d start filling out pay-roll information.
Without knowing it, we’ve been stocking our tool kits since childhood; parents, teachers, family, and friends have helped. (When Life Throws You a Curveball…. Hit It! by Dr. Chriswell Freeman)
” A friend is a present you give yourself.” (R.L. Stevenson)
No texting and driving. Watch for floods. Thank a friend! Write a letter. Steelers need Lambert and Mean Joe.
