Good Tuesday Afternoon! Computer problems recently.
1. Question – Can you stay away from gray?
2. Thought – Watch the last 15 minutes of the 1993 movie, The Good Son. In this final scene, a lady is holding one boy with each hand. She’s secure on the high ground of some jagged cliff not far from Bar Harbor, Maine. The two boys are not so lucky; the boys are not secure. They dangle about 400 feet above the wave-beaten rocks and this woman’s grip is the only thing keeping each boy alive. And then it gets complicated.
This woman is not strong enough to hold each boy in her hand. She realizes that to save anybody, she will need to release one of the boys to pull the other, using both hands to safety. She is the aunt of one of the boys, played by Elijah Wood, who has been the force of good for the last 88 minutes of the movie. In her other hand is her son, played by Macaulay Culkin, who is the devil incarnate. Her son’s angelic good looks have charmed most people into dismissing his cruel intentions. But the mother knows what the son is really like.
This mother is then faced with a mythic dilemma: Do I save my nephew, a good boy whom I only see at Christmas or Thanksgiving? Or do I save my only son who doesn’t always act just right? (Stand Your Ground by Evan H. Offstein)
