Good rainy and Friday Morning! Boy oh boy, there’s
lot to ponder?????
1. Question – Could this be the best job interview
question ever?
2. Thought – Alvin Wilson had an unorthodox
interviewing style. Occasionally, he would ask a few
technical questions, but most of his time was spent in
seemingly idle conversation. Finally, at the close of the
interview, Alvin would, without exception, ask the same
question of each applicant:
Alvin asked to see his tool box.
In each interview, the tool-box inspection was the moment
of truth. Alvin Wilson understood the importance of a good
tool kit, and he understood that everybody doesn’t
own one. That’s why Alvin never hired anybody
without first getting a close look at the tools the person
used to do his or her work.
If the applicant owned no tools, this was a bad sign. If
the tools were broken, lost, or in disarray, Alvin was not
impressed. But, if an applicant produced a well-organized
and well stocked box of tools, we’d start filling
out pay-roll information.
Without knowing it, we’ve been stocking our tool
kits since childhood; parents, teachers, family, and
friends have helped. (When Life Throws You a
