Good Wednesday Morning!
1. Question – What leadership aspects are you
looking for in the next United States President?
2. Thought – Every now and then a magazine or
journal will survey CEOs and other senior professionals
about the top ingredients for leadership. Not
surprisingly, character regularly shows up near
the top of almost everyone’s list. Other ingredients
that show up with high regularity on such lists are
judgment, ability to inspire, empathy, toughness, and
intelligence. These and other traits that may be mentioned
are all really subordinate aspects of character.
In the case of Churchill, four essential aspects of
character were the key to his leadership. The four aspects
that set him apart from ordinary politicians were candor
and plain speaking, decisiveness, the ability to balance
attention to details with a view of the wider scene, and a
historical imagination that informed his judgment.
(Churchill on Leadership by Steven F. Hayward)
“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve
stood up for something, sometime in your life.”
(Winston Churchill)
