Question & Thought for September 17th, 2017!!!

Good Sunday Morning!!!
1. Question – What characteristic do you suppose is the number one “I can’t stand” attribute for both males and females?
2. Thought :
  • Wrong political party
  • Bad manners
  • Boring
  • Uneducated
  • Not ambitious
  • Not kind
  • Not successful
  • Not rich
  • Not fashionable
While all of those things are important, the number 1 “I can’t stand attribute” is lying. We hate it when someone lies to us. Why? Because we are image bearers of the One who is Truth. We hate lying because God hates lying. (Jesus Unmasked by Todd Friel) (Thanks Counselor for this book!)

ANDS for September 16th, 2017!

Good Saturday Morning humorous friends! If you are in education, and who is not? You all gotta watch and share this 5 minute video on self esteem. And then, don’t forget to read and laugh through the other two ANDS!!

AND: https://www.prageru.com/courses/life-studies/why-self-esteem-self-defeating

AND: As far as the bathrooms,

my friends daughter was going into the female bathroom &   a guy was following her in.. He stopped him & asked what he thought he was doing, the guy replied I identify myself as a female & going to use the bathroom which I identify myself as.  When the police arrived & asked  what happened, the father explained what the guy told him & he said I identified myself as the tooth fairy & those are his two front teeth lying next to him.

On leaders,  I forget who said it but “there are no office hours for leaders.”

Or a person can lead, follow or get the hell out of the way.

AND: It’s the time of year to be on the alert for ticks, this may help…

Ticks

It is important to know the difference between these nasty, annoying creatures…

Questions and ANDS for September 15th, 2017!

Good Friday Morning!
1. Question – Bathrooms are changing aren’t they? Not in our homes, but in restaurants, colleges, schools and many other public places. I have observed a gender neutral bathroom in many places that used to have male and female separate rooms. Outside the neutral bathrooms there is a picture of a guy and a female and in some places an it. One stall is in most of them. When whoever is in the bathroom leaves, you go in. Here’s my  questions: Males: Should you lift the lid when going #1? And, if you did lift the lid, do you put it back down? Females: What say you?
Friday here! Don’t text and drive. Bathrooms in this grand land are now goofy. Our politicians are making some pretty goofy laws. Study their decisions and vote your ethics.
AND: This is a scary post.  I just finished an AS-1 class and we spent a fair portion of the period examining the concept of critical thinking. I am constantly amazed at the inability of high school students to actually think on their own.  I believe the “electronic” age; cell phones, tablets, etc have further eliminated the need to think as every answer is a click away…and even worse, many students don’t even care about answers because they don’t know what questions to ask.
AND: Hate to judge a book by its cover but now we are to blame a text book for poor education? For poor analytics? For inept reasoning?

Like I tell our cadets: you are surrounded by leadership. Some good, some bad, some ineffective…learn from each.

Question & Thought & ANDs.

Question & Thought for 9-14-2017!

Hello Thursday!!!
1. Question – Do you think the motive behind common core rigor & advanced placement testing is to take critical thinking from the high school classroom?
2. Thought – What is even meant by “rigor” today, and how do we get more of it in our student’s classes? High school students could be required to take more college-prep and Advanced Placement courses, but would they graduate “jury-ready” as a result? Would they know how to distinguish fact from opinion, weigh evidence, listen with both head and heart, wrestle with the sometimes conflicting principles of justice and mercy, and work to seek the truth with their fellow jurors?
The simplest explanation for the low level of intellectual work and general lack of curiosity found in classrooms – even in our best high schools – is that our schools were never designed to teach all students how to think. For the most part, teachers haven’t been trained to teach students how to think. The text books and tests we used in the past were not designed to teach and assess the ability to reason or analyze – and they remain substantially the same today.
