Question & Thought for August 30th, 2016!!!

Good Tuesday Morning!!
1. Question – What is Dr, Blount’s remedy for prevention of dehydration and cramps?
2. Thought – When the temperature outside is greater than 85 degrees, do the following to protect yourself:
1. One hour before exercising, take one AlkaSeltzer and one five grain aspirin. Drink water until you pee.
2. Take to the match one gallon of tap water. Purchase a 6-pack cooler with a flat top and load 1/3 full of ice and cover with water. Place a hand-sized towel in the cooler. Also take several tee-shirts and two bath towels.
3. During every crossover, sit down and drink a significant amount of water. Ring out the hand towel and place it on top of your head and neck. Replace the towel in the cool box and dry your hands and racquet. Sit on the cool box if no chair provided. Take the allowed 90 seconds to cool and hydrate yourself.
4. If you follow this program, you are not likely to get dehydration, cramps, heat prostration, or stroke. You are unlikely to need hospitalization and IV saline.
5. Should you get cramps after the match, go to your room and get in a tub of room temperature water and add several bags of ice. Stay in the tub for 10 minutes. This will stop the cramps and keep them from returning. Also continue to drink plenty of tap water. Do not drink iced beverages. Stay in the air conditioning for several hours.
6. If someone passes out, carry them to the hospital immediately. (John Blount, M.D.)

Question & Thought for August 29th, 2016!!!

Good Monday Morning!
1. Question – Do you see miracles every day?
2. Thought – Lewis distinguishes between miracles of the old creation (feeding the 5,000, water into wine) and miracles of the new creation (walking on water, resurrection). In the former, we see Christ do quickly and on a small scale what God does everyday on a large scale; thus, through “natural” processes, God is continually transforming water into wine, but the miracle is so “slow” we miss it. But when God does it suddenly at a wedding in Cana, the truth is plain; the miracle embodies what we always know to be (as those of Ovid, gratefully, do not). (The Life and Writings of C.S. Lewis by Professor Louis Markos)

Question & Thought for August 25th, 2016!!!

Good Thursday Morning!
1. Question – Is political party labeling totally fallacious?
2. Thought – People and parties are often called “Leftist,” or “Rightist.” The public do not really understand what they are talking about.
These terms actually refer to the manner in which the various parties are seated in the parliaments of Europe. The radical revolutionaries (usually the Communists) occupy the far left and the military dictatorships (such as the Fascists) are on the far right. Other parties are located in between.
Measuring people and issues in terms of political parties has turned out to be philosophically fallacious if not totally misleading. This is because the platforms or positions of political parties are often superficial and structured on shifting sand. The platform of a political party of one generation can hardly be recognized by the next. Furthermore, Communism and Fascism turned out to be different names for approximately the same thing – the police state. They are not extremes but, for all practical purposes, are virtually identical. (The 5000 Year Leap by W. Cleon Skousen)
I highly recommend this book for every American.

Question & Thought for 22 August 2016!

Good Monday Morning!
1. Question – Do you think it would be more difficult to be rescued if everyone was nice to each other and all had plenty to eat than to be a depraved world in need of rescue? Just thinking here!
2. Thought – ‘Niceness’ – wholesome, integrated personality – is an excellent thing. We must try by every medical, educational, economic, and political means in our power to produce a world where as many people as possible grow up ‘nice’; just as we must try to produce a world where all have plenty to eat. But we must not suppose that even if we succeeded in making everyone nice we should of saved their souls. A world of nice people, content in their own niceness, looking no further, turned away from God, would be just as desperately in need of salvation as a miserable world – and might even be more difficult to save. (Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis)
When I put my political eyeglasses on, I see this perfect social world that Bernie and Hillary think probable. Sorry. I’d rather compete.
