ANDs for May 2016!

Good Tuesday Morning and see ya May!

AND:Question: Why did the Savior finish Matt. 5:48:  “……as your Father in Heaven is and not as I am?”

AND: Am not a theologian. But I choose to piece today’s Thought with Gen 1:27.

We are created in His image. An ‘image’ can be an idea, and it can be an exact replica. Point being, the ‘what’ thats in God, is also in us. We may not use it, grow it, tap into it, understand it etc. but it’s like a seed in hibernation…waiting to be called upon. Each of us has this seed, each of us has this incredible potential.

When this seed is permitted abundant growth…well, be ye perfect.

It will be a light growth, the burden easy, the yoke light.

I believe this rests inside everyone. He plants it (the Alpha) and He will harvest it (the Omega).

AND: The process is circular.  To RETURN.  The reason for this reconstruction is non other than to create obedience within us.  We are headed back to the garden…no more…no less.  (No wonder the Mormons believe they will be “gods” over their own planet.)

Was Adam designed to be a “god”?  If not – then CS is wrong…

  1. And yes – CS can be wrong 🙂

AND: Loved this expose.  I believe Jesus commanded perfection of us, yes, but he didn’t claim himself as perfect until after His resurrection.  Before his resurrection he questioned “Why call thou me perfect?  Only God the Father is perfect.”  I don’t know if that quote is exact but it went something like that.

AND: That’s only half the story you need understand the whole story number one proverbs 11:28 you’re correct. But you also have to read Proverbs 12:11  Proverbs 12:14 in Proverbs 13:4 there is one other things in the Bible talks about money you just have to use it correctly and not worship it,  I know a lot of people like myself have done very well financially they keep the Lord first and prospered it’s a balance and  keep the Lord first and he will reward you if you work hard you’re wise and your humble. Lord does not want us to be poor the Lord wants us to make sure he’s always first. And his back Bible verse that you sent it’s correct to keep us in check only. And it’s right on point but I cannot do this any more examples where he wants us to cherish wealth as long as and keep him first and we don’t forget about helping people in and humble why we do it. Have a good day

AND:“I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.” Abraham Lincoln

AND: As the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu has to be very careful when wading into American politics. So it was rather surprising when he was caught saying that he is glad he didn’t have to vote in the Democrat primary. His reason is that he would have trouble deciding whether to vote against the socialist candidate who lived on a kibbutz in the 1960’s but bad mouths Israel or against the candidate who said all those nasty things about everybody in the e-mails the Mossad pulled off her server.

AND:The Short Happy Life of Frances Macomber

AND:“, the guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them the very center.”  Bork of Mormon   1 Nephi 16:2

AND: And that is why I read Walter Williams’ articles every chance I get Mark.       He is the spiritual aspirin that helps to keep my head from exploding.       A brilliant man who will never get the respect he deserves from the citizens he is ultimately attempting to help.

AND: Socialism is very idealistic…a belief that man is capable of “loving his neighbor as himself”.  Governor Bradford in 1620+ discovered communal living didn’t work because the Mayflower people of Massachusetts gave a myriad of excuses for not doing their part.  It wasn’t until he gave each family seed to plant and allowed them to keep or share that production dramatically increased and starvation ended.  This is another example that people are not perfect and need incentives to work and to do what’s right.

However, there is a difference in Socialism (Communism) and Consecration.  Consecration is a term used by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to define their total commitment (time, talents and resources) to the Kingdom of God.  However, it has been proven that they too, for the most part, don’t have faith enough to live that higher law.  It takes a nearly perfect people to live the law of Consecration…an unselfish people who prize obedience to God and who have faith in God’s blessings that he promises to pour out in abundance on the faithful.

AND: The demise of a society is exacerbated by allowing non assimilation. We have fooled our selves into believing tolerance is the acceptance of all that is not America and the denigration of all that is.  If you do not have assimilation if you do not have a firm conviction about right and wrong you are a lost society.  And finally you can believe what you wish about the peaceful muslim, what one should consider when it comes down to it on which side will they align, a hint it will not be the side with the Christian or the Jew.

AND:O.K. Rem.  You know my thoughts about this new-age parenting “joke”! So, I don’t even have to get all wound up about laziness, lack of “real” parental love, responsibility, acountability, vision, pride ( of being a good parent that instills values, morals & leadership by teaching & deed to offer to the world a decent, honest person………..w/ a conscious). Oooppppsss!    Methinks I have indeed gotten wound up  🙂

AND: 🙂 How about being chosen…how does that fit in?  HaShem chose His people….

Response: Didn’t know you were a Calvinist, like me.

Response back: Just because one or two pieces are agreed…does not make one a Calvinist ;). He was a Jew hater and a murderer – by the way 😉

  1. HaShem doesn’t “UN-choose” His people either 🙂

AND:I need to go back to day one and reread his premise on man. I think my issue might lie in either his premise on man or the spiritual track he assigns. I don’t think it’s as binary as he makes it. Regardless, his point is well made…and taken.

AND:The first song I heard from the states coming back on the USS Ogden from Vietnam was Walk Away Renee by the Left Bank.  Funny what we remember.

AND:Ironic,  I just discussed this with the Chief of Operation Restored Warriors out of Colorado.  They are looking for an East facility to offer more assistance. They are the recipients of the funds raised by the Seals on the Lake Norman swim.   He stated they had 12 facilitators patterned after Jesus’ apostles.

AND:VERY GOOD QUESTION!  In fact, I think it is an excellent question, and…I agree.

Two religions….a right one and a myriad of ones that are not entirely right.  The right one encompasses some of both of your scenarios:

Man is born into a sinful world with his own set of God given talents and carnal weaknesses to overcome, and after all he can do he will still be imperfect.  My belief is that it is man’s responsibility to overcome the world and his weaknesses as much as he is able by following and obeying Christian gospel precepts as he understands them.  He should pray for understanding all.

But after all man can do, he will still sin and will be accountable to Heavenly Father and Jesus for his own sins, and not for the transgressions of Adam and Eve.  Because man will still be imperfect he needs the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ who suffered because of His love for us so that we as sinners may overcome all sins by our faith in Him.  He wants us to love God and his gospel with all our hearts, minds and strengths, and love all men, especially the unlovable, and serve them.

I believe that FAITH in the atonement of Jesus Christ, Godly sorrow for one’s sins, sincere REPENTANCE, BAPTISM by priesthood authority and the laying on of hands for the GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST (as a constant companion) are necessary principles and ordinances (for exaltation) and must be performed by PROPER PRIESTHOOD AUTHORITY.  The blessing of the Gift of the Holy Ghost is retained by vigilantly trying to live in accordance with the Christian gospel.

There is much, much more, but fundamental doctrine is the topic today.

Have a good day, Mark.

AND:Jesus Christ is the only eternal judge and the only way to eternal life and Heaven.

The Catholic catechism begins with those and numerous similar scriptures pointing to Christ as the only way of salvation.

AND: I believe this.

The law of consecration in the LDS faith is the highest law.  It requires members to give all material wealth as well as their time talents, etc.  In return The Church gives back what is needed, plus what is wanted.  It takes a near perfect people to abide this law, so for now we are only required to tithe.

PS:  Our law of consecration is different from socialism because the giving is voluntary, and the receiving is accepted by people who work if they are able….who truly desire to give more, but have needs beyond what their incomes can provide.

AND: “ A 100 sheep led by a lion, will  defeat a 100 lions led by a sheep!”

AND: Disclaimer: I’m not a theologian nor philosopher; merely an observer.

Ortberg’s question of certainty is universal to man IMO. But, to my personal delight I don’t think the answer is found only via the door marked ‘death.’  In Ortberg’s thought, death will give him the answer about God.  He states certainty is on the other side of Death’s gate…in other words, once dead he’ll know if there is a God, or not. And he’s right. But….

My belief is the answer to certainty lies on this side of Death’s gate.  The answer to Ortberg’s certainty question is God’s Grace. God has promised Grace, but does He have it to give and has He given it?  Grace is a wonderfully, amazing force.  You can not earn it. You can not buy it. You may possess it, but its worthless until you give it away.  You can give it away and it costs you nothing–as a matter of fact, give it away and you find yourself with more to give.  Grace: the freely given and unmerited favor and love (of God). A wonderfully, amazing force. God created our world and then he created man.  Take a look out your window and look at that incredible yard, beautiful river, and inspiring sunset. God’s Grace is what put all these elements together for you to enjoy. I look at beautiful snow-capped mountains. To me, hard evidence of God’s grace. We didn’t “earn” these things…they were freely given to us.  We didn’t merit the beauty provided to us..it was freely given.

God exists because I know I am a recipient of His Grace.  His Grace fills our present world.  If we open our eyes and hearts each of us will see it. Yes, certainty will be answered after passing Death’s gate…but we can also find that answer before we get to that gate.

Not preaching here Rem, not quoting scripture. Not pitting belief systems against each other. Merely observing the world in awe and wonder.

Think about it….

Question & Thought for Memorial Day 2016!

Good Memorial Day Morning from me!
1. Question – What does a military man or woman want from America?
2. Thought – What a honorable Day this is. So many have served and paid with their lives. So many live on. We honor them today and on Veteran’s Day. That’s a grand thing America!
I want to take a little different view on what I believe our vets want from America. I believe we would honor our vets by becoming the very best citizens we can be. I believe we would honor our vets by becoming the very best citizens we can be! (If you ask yourself this question: “How can I honor vets by being a better citizen?” I think you’ll know what you ‘ought’ to do.)
Perhaps, by being well read. By understanding our history. By knowing our Constitution. By voting not by heritage, culture or on emotions but by voting rationally and logically. And, even more so, holding those we vote for accountable.
I believe those who are serving and have served and who have passed on would want us to stop America bashing. I believe the vets would want Americans to be proud of their country. To know accurate history. To know we’ve made mistakes along the way. But to also know, we liberated many nations from oppression, put men on the moon, and continue to be the light in the world.
Often in the classroom I use a technique called ‘reciprocal thinking.’ Basically, it’s a thought process where if you don’t know what it is, you can define it by thinking about what it’s not. It works quite well. Think about this: What would vets not want from America?
  • Rioting over court decisions.
  • Riots at political rallies.
  • Political leaders always blaming someone else for their district, city, county, or state mess.
  • Cronyism.
  • Teachers & professors damning our nation.
  • Disrespect for our police.
  • A continuing sequester.
  • Immigration without American assimilation.
  • An unbalanced budget.
  • Marxism.
  • Biased media coverage.
  • Multiculturalism.
  • Downsizing.
  • Non-leadership.
  • Socialism.
  • Hands-tied warfighters.
  • Long wars.
  • Peace-keeping missions.
  • Changing retirement plans.
  • Communism.
  • Life-long politicians and military leaders.
  • Ambiguous objectives.
  • Non-Support.
  • Apologies for America’s wrongs without pride for America’s goodness.
  • Political Correctness.
I remember four people in history who brought us together as a nation.
  1. President Kennedy
  2. Neil Armstrong
  3. President Reagan
  4. President George Bush
If we keep America bashing up, I’m afraid we’re going to lose her.
“How can you honor vets by being a better citizen?”

Question & Thought for May 29th, 2016!!!

Good Sunday Morning All!
1. Question – Have you asked God to help with your construction?
2. Thought – I find I must borrow yet another parable from George MacDonald. Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come in a live in it Himself.
The command Be ye perfect is not idealistic gas. Nor is it a command to do the impossible. He is going to make us into creatures that can obey that command. He said (in the Bible) that we were ‘gods’ and He is going to make good on His words. If we let Him – for we can prevent Him, if we choose – He will make the feeblest and filthiest of us into a god or a goddess, a dazzling, radiant, immortal creature, pulsating all through with such energy and joy and wisdom and love as we cannot imagine, a bright stainless mirror which reflects back to God perfectly (though, of course, on a smaller scale) His own boundless power and delight and goodness. This process will be long and in parts very painful, but that is what we are in for. Nothing less. He meant what He said. (Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis)
“Be ye perfect.”

Question & Thought for May 28th, 2016!!!

Good Saturday Morning. Wrap-Up of the last 2 days by Stormer!
1. Question – What’s the sinful man got to do with the welfare state?
2. Thought – The men who founded and built America learned quickly that because man was by nature sinful and lazy that he would try to live off someone else’s work and efforts – if he had the opportunity.
When the Pilgrims came to Plymouth Rock, for example, for several years all men worked fields which were held in common and all shared equally in the food which was produced. There was never enough food and many died of starvation. After three years of “welfare state socialism” the colonists made each man responsible for feeding his own family.  An 1871 history text, History of the World, by Everet A. Duyckinck describes the results, saying…
…the next year, because the joint stock system did not work well, each colonist at Plymouth began to plant a tract for himself, which soon made corn abundant.
A third grade history book, Leaders In Making America, published in 1921, tells how Captain John Smith dealt with the laziness which brought catastrophe and starvation to the colony at Jamestown. The text tells that Smith …
…laid down the law that “To save ourselves from starving, every man must turn to and help by working. He who will not work shall not eat.” And every man had to obey the new rule. Although the lazy settlers did not like it, they set to work cutting down trees, building houses, clearing the land and planting corn. As we should expect, the outlook grew brighter.
As America has turned away from recognition of the sinfulnature of man and his need of a Savior, the welfare state has grown. Textbooks reflect the change. Few histories now teach the importance lessons learned at Jamestown and Plymouth. Instead, they encourage the welfare state idea. Magruder’s American Government, for example teachers:
Because of sickness, accidents, and occasional unemployment it is difficult or impossible for a laborer who has reared a family to save from his meager wages. And it is more just to place all the burden of supporting those who have been unfortunate, or even shiftless, upon everybody instead of upon some dutiful son or daughter who is not responsible for the condition.
What is ahead? In 1966, a Columbia University sociology professor spearheaded formation of a union of welfare seekers which had the announced purpose of …
…combatting the Puritan Ethic that everyone in America has to work for a living. (The Death of a Nation, 1968 copyright, by John A. Stormer)
“Your dad and I are exactly the opposite. He’s a government bureaucrat, and I am a capitalist. We get paid, and our success is measured on opposite behaviors. He gets paid to spend money and hire people. The more he spends and the more people he hires, the larger his organization becomes. In the government, the larger his organization, the more he is respected. On the other hand, within my organization, the fewer people I hire and the less money I spend, the more I am respected by my investors. That’s why I don’t like government people. They have different objectives from most business people. As the government grows, more and more tax dollars will be needed to support it.” (Rich Dad – Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki)
