Good Wednesday Morning!!!
1. Question – Is there someone you always wanted to
read about but never found the time? (I always heard about
Dietrich Bonhoeffer and now I read about him. Awesome man!
I hope to meet him someday.)
2. Thought from The Story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer by
Michael Van Dyke:
Dietrich found himself waking up most mornings with a
prayer on his lips. He was praying more than ever before,
yet he felt no special sense of God’s presence in
the prison. He only felt his responsibility to be a man of
God and, if necessary, to suffer where God had placed him.
He was starting to think that true faith did not involve
feelings at all – that it was instead the God-given
ability to respond in love to the world as it was. Faith
was no escape hatch from the power of evil men; true faith
often placed one directly in the grip of evil.
Hadn’t Jesus Himself provided a demonstration of
this truth?
[Don’t know about you, but when I read, ‘that
true faith did not involve feelings at all – that it
was instead the God-given ability to respond in love to
the world as it was.’ I jumped. Faith is not a
feeling – Plain as day!!! Makes ya think about
faith!! My ‘feel good religion’ went away and
my reasoning set in and I got a glimpse of where
Bonhoeffer was going with this thought. He’s onto
something here. Wonderful – Just wonderful!]
”Why do you waste your time praying for these
animals? They certainly don’t reciprocate your
goodwill.”
“I don’t pray for them in order to gain their
friendship,” Dietrich answered.
