Good Saturday Morning!
1. Question – What book would you give someone you appreciate, love and just care about for Christmas? Are you reading as well?
2. Thought – Below are books I’ve read or are reading. I’ve categorized them:
A. Bibles:
The Holy Bible. Given to me by David. Large print. (ESV. Crossway)
ESV Study Bible. My favorite Bible. Plenty of explanations and references. Great section on Biblical doctrine.
The MacArthur Study Bible. Just like the ESV. Great section on an overview of theology.
Serendipity Bible for Groups. Questions and questions to provoke thought. Great Bible for groups.
B. Devotions:
A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie. 31 daily prayers. An everyday read. Copyright 1949. There’s a reason why this is first.
Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. Fantastic. 365 daily devotions and references to scripture.
Streams in the Desert by L.B. Cowman. 365 daily devotions which get into your ‘desert times in life.’
C. Various religious study books:
Mere Christianity by C. L. Lewis. My favorite. “How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different the saints.” Think about that truth!
Learn the Bible in 24 Hours by Dr. Chuck Missler. Awesome study aid. Short and clear and revealing.
Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To. Get this book! By Anthony DeStefano.
I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek. I recently bought this book and I am loving it. I highly recommend. Lots more thought coming your way from this read.
not a fan by kyle idleman. Are you a fair weather fan of Christ or a follower? Easy question until you read this book.
The Purpose Driven Life by Eric Warren. “It’s not about You!” I give this book to many people!
Between Heaven and Hell by Peter Kreeft. If you know the views of Lewis, Kennedy and Huxley you’ll love their dialog in the afterlife???
D. History:
Killing Lincoln/ Killing Kennedy/ Killing Jesus / and I peeked, I got Killing Patton (on Christmas) by Bill O’Reilly and Marty Dugard – all fantastic reads.
Things That Matter by Charles Krauthammer. He’s brilliant! Short stories on various current and past happenings.
The Book of Man by William J. Bennett. Readings shared on the path to manhood. Men and boys should read this.
The Notes by Ronald Reagan. This is a collection of various quotes and sayings which President Reagan used continuously.
Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. Read the book before you see the movie! Can’t put it down.
Never Surrender by LTG (Ret.) Jerry Boykin. An army general’s career and dismissal.
E. Self-help or improvement (I need all I can get. Did you know only 5 in a 100 people will ever read a self-help book?)
Excuses Begone! by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. He tells it like you need to know it.
Laws of Success by Napoleon Hill. Success laid out in all aspects of your life. Just awesome!
Walking Wisely by Charles Stanley. “If you want to be wise………………………” Well done!
Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy – All of Coach Dungy’s books are super for the family!
Coach Wooden One-On-One by John Wooden and Jay Carty. If you coach, and we’re all coaches, read and heed this book!
If You Build It….by Dwier Brown. Remember Field of Dreams? Remember Costner asking his dad to play catch. Well this book is written by the actor who played that dad! EnJOY!
God’s Answers to Life’s Difficult Questions by Rick Warren. How do you stop hurrying, stress, and????
Developing the Leader Within You by John C. Maxwell. If you are a teacher, coach, parent – please read this book.
The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn. Where are the Freds in your life? I love this book!
Faith and Doubt by John Ortberg. I like everything by Mr. Ortberg.
F. Health:
Super Immunity by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. – Everyone should read this. Change your ways in 2015!
Killing Cancer – Not People by Robert G. Wright. Think about that title.
The Coconut Miracle by Bruce Fife, C.N.,N.D. I don’t know what those initials are for, but I am a believer in coconut oil!
In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants. Fantastic read.
Forks over Knives by Gene Stone. The plant based way to health. Get the dvd as well.
Eat-Move-Sleep by Tom Rath. Just well done. Well done! Can solve your sleep problems by ?????
G. General Knowledge:
Common Sense Economics by James Gwartney, Richard L. Stroup, and Dwight R. Lee. Understanding economics! Great!
The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Excellent advice!!!
H. AND: Buy a journal. A nice one. Nice cover. And start putting to paper your thoughts, your memories, your plans, your goals, your friends, and grow! It works!
I’ve got so many more books, and David’s as well. This is not meant to be an exclusive list. If you all have suggestions, let me know and I’ll put them out there. I highly suggest a daily morning habit of: alone time with God, study, meditation and journaling.
