Questions & Thought for the last day of June 2013!!!

Good Monday Morning for the last day in June 2014!!!
1. Question – Got 3 minutes? What 4 books impact your thinking to start the day? The following are 4 readings of the 7 books I read daily! EnJOY!

  1. Bible – James 5:9 – Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged, behold, the judge is standing at the door.
  2. A Dairy of Private Prayer by John Baillie for the morning of 30th day of the month:
Creator Spirit, who broodest everlastingly over the lands and waters of the earth, enduing them with forms and colours which no human skill can copy, give me to-day, I beseech Thee, the mind and heart to rejoice in Thy creation.
Forbid that I should walk through Thy beautiful world with unseeing eyes:
Forbid that the lure of the market-place should ever entirely steal my heart away from the love of the open acres and green trees:
Forbid that under the low roof of workshop or office or study I should ever forget Thy great overarching sky:
Forbid that when all Thy creatures are greeting the morning with songs and shouts of joy, I alone would wear a dull and sullen face:
Let the energy and vigour which in Thy wisdom Thou has infused into every living thing stir to-day within my being, that I may not be among Thy creatures as a sluggard and a drone:
And above all give me grace to use these beauties of earth without me and this eager stirring of life within me as means whereby my soul may rise from creature to Creator, and from nature to nature’s God.
O Thou whose divine tenderness doth ever outsoar the narrow loves and charities of earth, grant me to-day a kind and gentle heart towards all things that live. Let me not ruthlessly hurt any creature of Thine. Let me take thought also for the welfare of the little children, and of those who are sick, and of the poor; remembering that what I do unto the least of these His brethren I do unto Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
    3. Jesus Calling for 30 June by Sarah Young:
I AM THE TRUTH: the One who came to set you free. As the Holy Spirit controls your mind and actions more fully, you become free in Me. You are increasingly released to become the one I created you to be. This is a work that I can do in you as you yield to My Spirit. I can do My best handiwork when you sit in the stillness of My presence, focusing your entire being on Me.
Let My thoughts burst freely upon your consciousness, stimulating abundant Life. I am the way, and the Truth and the Life. As you follow Me, I lead you along paths of newness: ways you have never imagined. Don’t worry about what is on the road up ahead. I want you to find your security in knowing Me, the one who died to set you free.
(John 8:32; Philippians 2:13;John 14:6)
    4. Steams in the Desert  for 30 June by L.B. Cowman:
I heard a hushed voice. (Job 4:16)
Some 20 years ago a friend gave me a book entitled True Peace. It had an old medieval message and this one primary thought – that God was waiting in the depths of my being to speak to me if I would only be still enough to hear his voice.
I assumed this would not be a difficult thing to do, so I tried to be still. No sooner had I begun to do so than complete pandemonium seemed to break loose. Suddenly I heard a 1000 voices and sounds from without and within, until I could hear nothing except these incredible noises. Some were my own words, my own questions, and even my own prayers, while others were temptations from the Enemy, and the voices of the world’s turmoil.Inspirational-Inspiring-and-Motivational-Quotes-Sayings-to-Start-your-Day-Right-Create-your-own-reality-or-someone-will-do-it-for-you[1]
In every direction I turned, I was pushed, pulled, and confronted with indescribable unrest and overwhelming noises. I seemed compelled to listen to some of them and to respond in some way. But God said, “Be still and know that I am God” (Ps 46:10). Then my mind was filled with worries over my responsibilities and plans for tomorrow, and God said again, “Be still.”
As I listened and slowly learned to obey, I shut my ears to every other sound. Soon I discovered that once the other voices ceased, or once I ceased to hear them, “a gentle whisper” (1 Kings 19:12) began to speak in the depths of my being.
And it spoke to me with an inexpressible tenderness, power, and comfort.
This “gentle whisper” became for me the voice of prayer, wisdom, and service. No longer did I need to work so hard to think, pray, or trust, because the Holy Spirit’s “gentle whisper” in my heart was God’s prayer in secret places of my soul. It was His answer to all my questions, and His life and strength for my soul and body. His voice became the essence of all knowledge, prayer, and blessings, for it was the living God Himself as my life and me all.
This is precisely how our spirit drinks in life of our risen Lord. And then we are enabled to face life’s conflicts and responsibilities, like a flower that has absorbed the cool and refreshing drops of dew through the darkness of the night. Yet just as dew never falls on a stormy night, the dew of His grace never covers a restless soul. (A.B. Simpson)

Question & Thought & ANDs…

Quesition & Thought for the last Sunday in June 2014!!!

Good Sunday Morning!
1. Question – Is your schedule, or ‘to do list’ your master?
2. Thought – ‘When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching many things.’ (Mark 6:34)
Wise leaders will always have a schedule, a plan to use time most productively, but the wisest leader will never make it his master.

Important but unplanned moments periodically occur that should not be lost, even though they disrupt a planned schedule. One of the tensions of leadership is finding the proper balance between adhering to a well-planned schedule and being flexible enough not to lose those spontaneous opportunities that cross our paths. That is not easy. I have seen both extremes.

Some leaders seem to careen from one unplanned event to another, their schedules meaning nothing. I know of one corporation chairman whose company has been severely damaged because of his failure to keep any sort of schedule, resulting in broken relationships, severed alliances, and lost business opportunities. At the other extreme, I have seen leaders who rarely deviated from a planned schedule, resulting in many missed opportunities. Both extremes are examples of ineffective leadership.

How do we find balance? Jesus had a plan, one which He moved inexorably to accomplish. But as He did so, He utilized those special, unplanned occasions to contribute to the successful conclusion of His original plan.

As in the above passage, compassion was typically Jesus’ motivation for deviating from His schedule. Compassion may not seem useful for today’s leaders in intense business situations, but consider this: a concern for the welfare of people rarely leads us to an unprofitable or unproductive use of our time. Wise compassion, the kind that moved Jesus, does not cause a leader to become so weak that he damages the enterprise or hurts those around him. Rather, it is a clear- headed emotion that enables us to strive to accomplish the most good for the most people. Sometimes this is achieved by closely adhering to a schedule. Sometimes it is achieved by being flexible and taking compassionate detours that help to accomplish your overall goal.

When thinking about your schedule, remember how Jesus approached His. (The Leadership Lessons of Jesus by Bob Briner & Ray Pritchard)

As I typed this, this question came to my mind: What is your overall goal in life? “Sometimes it is achieved by being flexible and taking compassionate detours that help to accomplish your overall goal.”

Question & Thought & ANDs…

Question – Thought & AND for 28 June 2014

Good Saturday Morning Learner Leaders!
1. Question – “You know, why do you get up every day?”
2. Thought – “When you have a cause, it should never be about trying to measure the so-called impact of what you are doing,” he said. “It should never be about counting the number of families touched by your ministry, calculating the number of meals served at the homeless shelter, or whatever the case may be. Because once you start doing that, then you’re right back to the whole thing being about you, focusing on what you are accomplishing, and it’s not about you. It’s about connecting to others, being other-centered.
I asked Joe to give me a scope of exactly what he meant – in definition of masculinity – by the term cause. What qualifies?
“I guess it’s a reason or a purpose to live,” Joe said. “You know, why do you get up every day? I don’t know whether it justifies your life, but it certainly gives meaning to your life. And it ought to define your day-to-day existence.”
“So how do you go about finding a cause, the right cause? I asked. “In your case, it all started with a very difficult life-changing event, Billy’s illness and death. Maybe I had a similar experience with my sister and the obvious path toward working on organ donation. But aside from a personal experience like that, how do you find a cause? Do you just seek out a cause? Is it something that finds you? Is it a calling?
Joe did not have any simple answers to those questions. He said that the first step – “part of the challenge of our culture” – is somehow breaking through and reaching beyond the compare-and-compete paradigm that leads to so much me-me-me thinking.
“How do you find a cause in a world where the value system gives you very little reason to even have a cause except when it’s doing something for your own individualistic reasons and purposes?” Joe said. “Very difficult thing to do. I mean, look at the messages were constantly getting. Look at all the media and marketing messages. We get all sorts of stuff about the whole mentality of always wanting bigger, better, more – the power of possessions – but that’s only for ourselves. Where do we ever get media or marketing about wanting to do something for someone else, about having a cause beyond our own selfish needs, wants and desires?” Season of Life by Jeffrey Marx)

Question & Thought & ANDs…
AND: I agree with closing the mouth and opening the ears, wish I would have been wise enough when I was younger to appreciate and comprehend the meaning. Back in 1985 I was working for a gentleman who owned a rental car business.  A fleet salesman from GM stopped to talk to him about buying some cars.  He was not there and I took the opportunity to ask the salesman a few questions about sales since I was leaning in that direction for employment.

I remember what he said although I didn’t practice it like I should have.  “You have two ears and one mouth.  Use your ears twice as much as your mouth.”

In closing I will share this with you:

A wise old owl sat in an oak.

The more he saw the less he spoke.

The less he spoke the more he heard.

How I wish I was like that wise old bird!

Question & Thought for June 27th, 2014!!!

Good Friday Morning Leaders!
1. Question – If you are not reading about how to become a better, husband, wife, father, mother, CEO, leader, boss, manager, commander, chief, captain, or whatever, just what are you doing? Are you sharing your wisdom or listening to those you care about?
2. Thought – In my life it’s safe to say that I have never learned a single thing when I was talking. My willingness to close my mouth and open my ears, on the other hand, has granted me free admission to a great education, “Let the wise listen,” King Solomon said, “and add to their learning.”
The advice to shut up and listen contradicts the human desire to be noticed or known, but not every good thing is easy. To never close my mouth, employ silence, genuinely hear another person, absorb new information, to believe that every moment requires my input is shortsighted and ultimately sad.
Otherwise life is like … well, it’s like standing on a balcony overlooking a breathtaking panorama and using the entire time to stare into the mirror. (The Little Red Book Of Wisdom by Mark DeMoss)
Have a great last weekend in June! Don’t text and drive. Drink water. And are you giving too much advice?
Do you know what happens when you read? You are not talking!!!!!
