Question & Thought for February 2014!

Good Tuesday Morning!
1. Question – Have you ever been humbled by a child?
2. Thought – I coached a t-ball team this past spring. I had 8 boys and 4 girls ranging in age from 4-6. I had heard all the stories about that age group, how they ran to third after they hit the ball and how some picked flowers in the outfield. Well, all of that proved true, including playing in the dirt and running aimlessly around the infield after each batter from the opposing team hit the ball. One of my players, who was standing on first after getting a hit, even picked up a slow roller that a teammate hit and threw it to second base, which, if we were calling outs, would have gotten himself out.
Children can definitely make us laugh and provide humor in the midst of good times and tough times. Even more, though, they can teach us lessons as we see in Mark 10:13-14.
I learned that lesson in a humbling way. After practice one day, we were starting to pray, as we always did, and one of my players asked if he could pray. I hesitantly said yes, but said I would close (you know, to say the real prayer that God would hear). After I heard this genuine, sweet prayer by this child, I was floored and embarrassed that I had those thoughts. As I walked to my car, I confessed to God that I was sorry that I didn’t think a child could offer up a prayer to Him.
The next time we deny a child something spiritual or think he or she isn’t ready for something like that, remember that Jesus told us not to deny them. Also remember that acting childish isn’t always bad. (Brett Honeycutt from Training Table Spring 2009 edition)

Question & Thought for February 24th, 2014!!!

Good Monday Morning!
1. Question – Several years ago, 2005 as a matter, Teresa Sharp gave a challenge to the men in our Bible study to write a prayer for our children. What was that prayer?
2. Thought – 30 April 2005
For My Children
Lord, I pray my children will take from me what You have led me to do good and understand my faults and learn to handle them in a better way in their life.
I pray for their Christian foundation and daily building blocks to strengthen them.
I pray that faith will keep them from fear.
I pray the sorrows in life will be comforted by Your love.
I pray for the good in their life and that they look to You and give You thanks.
I pray that they will have serenity and peace, good friends, respect all people, that their relationships will be educational and help them understand God’s purpose for them.
May they marry, be happy, healthy and prosper with children who are as good as You have made them for me.
I thank You for allowing me to learn of You through my children. May my children’s children have the same opportunity to teach my children.
Amen.
Love,

Question & Thought for February 23rd, 2014!!!

Good Sunday Morning!
1. Question – Do you need a good prayer?
2. Thought – From a book given me by a friend which I read daily: A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie (Copyright 1949)
Twenty Third Day
Holy Father, from whom alone all good proceedeth, let the Christian graces of faith, hope, and charity be every day more firmly established within me.
Oh God, I believe–
that Thou rulest all things in wisdom and in righteousness:
that Thou hast called me to be Thy loyal servant:
that Thou dost rightfully demand of me complete subservience to Thy will:
that in Jesus Christ Thou hast shown me a way of salvation whereby I may be delivered from my sins:
that if I truly repent, Thou art willing to pardon and save me.
O God I hope–
for the continuance of Thy daily mercies:
for the lessening of sin’s hold upon my will:
for my growth in grace and in true holiness from day to day:
for a more perfect holiness, when earthly days are done:
for a day when I shall know even as also I am known.
O God, I love Thee–
who Thyself art love:
who in love didst create me and in love dost still preserve me:
who didst so love me to send Thy Son to suffer and to die that I might live with Thee:
who hast commanded me to show my love to Thee by loving my neighbor for Thy sake.
Help Thou mine unbelief, O God, give me greater patience in my hope, and make me more constant in my love. In loving let me believe and in believing let me love; and in loving and believing let me hope for a more perfect love and a more unwavering faith, through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
Have a great week!
