Thoughts for the Last Day of 2013!!!

See ya 2013!
1. Thoughts – Why do I always keep a small 3″ by 5″ notebook and pen with me. Because – people are wonderful! They have so many great ideas and thoughts. So do books! Here are a few thoughts I jotted down in 2013 from many of YOU:
  • What do you lie to yourself about?
  • What’s priceless to you?
  • Do you like sun rises or sunsets more?
  • Do we take time to write a letter?
  • Do we take time to discern?
  • Do we take time to give?
  • Do we take time to journal?
  • Do we take time to know God?
  • What are the markers in your journey?
  • What markers in your life are warning signals?
  • To know yourself you have to know your absolutes, convictions, opinions & questions. Can you put those down on paper and defend them?
  • Suppose you said to someone, “What a lovely blue sky today,” and that person said to you,” I’m blind, what does blue look like?” How would you describe blue to him?
  • Psalm 77:12-13, I will ponder all your work and meditate on your mighty deeds. (I love the word ponder. It’s a thinking word. How often do you ponder? I do a lot. Do you see God at work daily? Do you meditate on his mighty deeds? Trees? I do!)
  • Matthew 6:22-23, The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if the eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness.
  • Proverbs 4:7-8, The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on you a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.
  • Proverbs 4:26, Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.
  • Matthew 6:25, Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life.
  • Pray for prisoners.
  • The empty chair makes me sad. However, Flora Belle’s faith makes me glad. What was it about this little lady that made so many twinkle gladly? Was it her kindness and humble spirit or was it her understanding?
  • Proverbs 12:1-2, Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.imagesGTQXVF7J
  • Look up John Newton and Amazing Grace.
  • Better is one day in your courts.
  • Singing comes from the right side of the brain. And after my stroke, this is how I got to speaking again.
  • Utube Dr. Ben Carson
  • I love the internet, what’s missing is the breath of community.
  • Think about the house Jesus is building for you.
  • Get the book Radical – you won’t like it – but you will.
  • Is Chick-Fil-et the next ground zero in the next cultural war?
  • What are God’s principles?
  • Get the book on truth – by an Indian man.
  • Love without truth is meaningless.
  • You sent an angel to slap someone!
  • Your ‘To Do’ list means nothing unless you can check it off at the end of the day.
  • Root causes of Criticism are: Envy; Negativity; & Sarcasm.
  • Human nature is generally kind and good. However, we are shaded by others. We are basically self-serving and until we do an introspection we really don’t know ourselves.

  • Be perfect as an imperfect person!
  • Dogs, like people, have an amazing capacity to keep chewing on something that is bad for them!
  • Death by Leo Buscaglia: Decay comes from turning on the TV when the sun comes out! Decay comes from supersized coke and French fries! Decay comes from sitting alone at home! Aging is up to nature, decay is up to you!
  • A leaders attitude is caught by his or her followers more quickly than his or her actions.
  • Is the human mind completely ruled by reason?
  • Teaching: We’re not in it for the income. We’re in it for the outcome.
  • If you accept your faith through reasoning – you have to do something with it!
  • The best way to get rid of victim thinking in our world is to first get rid of it in ourselves.
  • There is a simple 2-minute task you can have your students do each day, that, if repeated for 21 days researchers have found brings the following results: “Your intelligence rises, your creativity rises, your energy levels rise. Your brain is 31% more productive. You’re 37% better at sales. Doctors are 19% faster, more accurate at coming up with the correct diagnosis.”
  • Trust is a two way street.
  • We all have bad breath in the morning.
  • Leaders don’t do what they want to – they do what is right!
  • We are living in the most anti-intellectual time of the Christian church!
  • I don’t want to die. Is it because I love all these people or is it because I’m afraid this party is over? Or, is it because, this life is so great, and I’m afraid of what’s on the other side? Is there another side?
  • I will always choose what my mind deems is best for me at the present time.
  • Do we want God in our decision making?
  • On December 30th, 2013 I saw Eric at the gym. I was putting on my sweats and he was sitting at he table across from me. I asked him, “What’s new for you in 2014?” He said, “I’m going to be a better father this year.” I said, “That’s wonderful! How many kids do you have?” He said, “My first one will be born in 4 months.” I just smiled and said, “Happy New Year!”imagesM2Y9XM3K
And, that’s enough if you’ve lasted till the end. 2013 is history except for what you saved in notes, pictures or memories. My word for 2014 is serendipity and my sister’s is listen.
Guess what? I know a little what you’ll be like at the end of 2014. And I’ll know what you’ll be like at the end of 2018 for sure. How do I know? From John C. Maxwell, I know this to be true: “Who you’ll be in the next five years is a direct result of the books you read and the people you associate with.”
And my take on that statement by Maxwell: Choose wisely!
God Bless you all and thanks for the encouragement!

Question & Thought & ANDs…

Question & Thought & AND for the last Monday of 2013!!!

Good Monday Morning! I just Love reading & football
1. Question – I totally agree with Epictetus! If you admit the existence of a deity you must possess these two things. What are they? Read-On!
2. Thought – From all that has been said it follows that the universe is administered by the Providence of God, and that all things are wisely ordered.

There are passages in which Antoninus expresses doubts, or states different possible theories of the constitution and government of the Universe, but he always recurs to his fundamental principle, that if we admit the existence of a deity, we must also admit that he orders all things wisely and well. Question – Thought & AND for December 29th, 2013!

Good Sunday Morning! 2013 – almost gone.
1. Question – Is the second half of your life going to look like the first half?
imagesRG5I26O5
2. Thought – My second half began when I walked away from my full-time, hands-on involvement with work. You probably cannot do that. But even if you can’t, you can still have a second half.

images04IXK9GZ
imagesWPX436JMBy the time you get into halftime, your attitude toward your job may range from “I love my job so much I’d do it even if they didn’t pay me” to ” I can’t stand what I do no matter how much money I make.” I was lucky enough to be pretty close to the first response, but I realize there are many who are closer to the second. In fact, my hunch is that quite a few people do not like their job very much, and use it mainly as a means to an end. (Halftime by Bob Buford)
3. AND: We went home to see my folks. 500 miles on the 26th. Relatives on the 27th. And 500 miles on the 28th. I-95 was like NASCAR. I think many folks did the same and we are glad we did.
When I read Halftime sent to me by the doc (I got many docs & I need them all and they are true friends.) I thought about the time I left the first half job. I didn’t want to go, I really loved it. We all have to make money and I would of done it for much less. However, life teaches you lessons and life is wonderful and how will you respond when it doesn’t go your way? At first – I didn’t do too well. Then I thought what was I learning from this? My question is this: Are you built for the first half or are you built for the second half? Fun thinking! Makes me smile.

Question & Thought for December 28th, 2013!!!

Good Saturday Morning! 2014 on the horizon!
1. Question – Which religion is right?
2. Thought – I have been asked to tell you what Christians believe, and I am going to begin by telling you one thing that Christians do not need to believe. If you are a Christian you do not have to believe that all the other religions are simply wrong all through. If you are an atheist you have to believe that the man point in all the religions of the whole world is simply one huge mistake. If you are a Christian, you are free to think that all those religions, even the queerest ones, contain at least some hint of truth. When I was an atheist I had to try to persuade myself that most of the human race have always been wrong about the question that mattered to them most; when I became a Christian I was able to take a more liberal view. But, of course, being a Christian does mean thinking that where Christianity differs from other religions, Christianity is right and they are wrong. images9BE2EBTNAs in arithmetic – there is only one right answer to a sum, and all other answers are wrong; but some of the wrong answers are much more nearer being right than the others. (Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis)
I will read this book for the 14th time in this new year! Just incredible!
