Retirement OR Repositioned?

“What are you doing now?” “I’m retired, I said” He said:

You are repurposed…nothing alive is retired unless it so chooses.  Retired comes from two French words, re (back) and tirer (to draw).  Literally, it means to be drawn back, away from, secluded or withdrawn–in an extreme sense even canceled.  It’s origin is militant–to retreat from battle, and geographic–to be secluded.  Of course you are that in terms of former positions perhaps, but to say I am drawn back?  You certainly are not that!!  However, we must be careful with our words, they become our reality.  You are, if anything, on the forefront challenging others to consider what is good, real, and true, and to love life.  Imagine if you said everyday, “I am recharged”; “I am repurposed” instead?  Certainly, that is more true!

You will be challenged by the four agreements.  The author is don Miguel Ruiz.  It is 150 pages.  I wouldn’t say it is a fast read, though in principal the whole book is covered on the inside flap with the list of the four agreements:  The book is just the working out of each agreement as a proof explained.  I am digesting it piece by piece.  The agreements are
1.  Be impeccable with your word.
2.  Do not take anything personally.
3.  Do not make assumptions.
4.  Do your best.
Wish we could talk about it over coffee some early morning at Starbucks or elsewhere.  Perhaps we will…
