Coconut

The unique properties of coconut oil make it, in essence, a natural antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiprotozoal food. (From The COCONUT OIL MIRACLE by Bruce Fife, C.N., N.D.)

I switched from putting manufactured lotion on my face to coconut oil and I’m never going back.

Weight Loss

A friend of mine commented on losing weight. (17 pounds since Thanksgiving.) Today is January 29th, 2014) The recipe is a decision:

  • Cut out all sugar and wheat
  • No white flour
  • Go gluten free
  • Take 3 oz. of fresh squeezed lemon juice after each meal
  • Drink a quart of water with an ounce of pure cranberry juice throughout the day to curb sugar cravings.

wheat-sugar-[1]

Wheat and sugar are the culprits. The sugar….the more you have the more you want. The battle inside is being won by the ‘bad guys.’ Microbes! Bad bacteria! When you feed them sugar – they multiply! Then you have stronger cravings and feed them more. A vicious cycle! I did it for years. When you stop feeding them, they stop multiplying and settle down along with cravings. For me – I noticed a difference in 3 days!images1AV9IJON

Been making fresh humus for about a year now….and you are correct, its a healthy snack.

Your recipe is similar to mine…but let me offer some time-saving tips.

I use Organic canned garbanzo beans….about $1 per can.  One can each time I make it.

I also use Organic Tahini…this is roasted sesame seeds, mashed into something like peanut  butter.  About $6 for a jar that will last a year.

First drain the canned beans, but save the drained water.

Put the beans in a blender–bullet–or I use a mini food processor.

Blend for two minutes…this is where you make the beans as fine as you can.  Since the beans are dry, you may have to add just a tad of the drained bean water.

Add one Tablespoon of Tahini.  This will act as the olive oil does in your recipe–but a bit healthier.  It adds slightly to taste, but you’d probably never notice if you forgot to add it.

Add one Tablespoon of Lime (or Lemon) juice.  This adds flavor and serves as a mild preservative.

Then just be creative.  What you add to the mixture at this point is whatever you like for flavor.  We like:

+ Minced fresh garlic (one large clove)

+ Fresh onion, scallion or chives

+ Roasted Red Peppers (in jars)

+ Banana Peppers

+ Red pepper flakes

+ Hot sauce…anything to give it a kick.

With our ingredients, the roasted red peppers are what brings the most liquid to the mixture.  You need some liquid, but not a lot.  So, keep the drained water handy and if the mixture gets too thick, add some water.

My recipe makes about two cups of humus….for about $1.50.  That’s way cheaper than what I can buy at the store.  From the time I start making this until I’m done and cleaned up is 20 minutes.  Fast, easy, and good.

Smoothies!!!

  1. You will need the Magic Bullet or the Nutri Bullet.
  2. Fresh fruit is always better, but clean it well.
  3. Frozen strawberries and blue berries.
  4. Bananas (Green ones – Doc’s advice)
  5. Black Cherry Concentrate (GNC)
  6. Protein Powder
  7. Walnuts
  8. Apple
  9. Cinnamon
  10. A 1/2 teaspoon of Coconut Oil
  11. Optional: peach, raisins, pear, melons, avocadoes….

Put it all in the bullet and mix for 30 seconds. This is your breakfast! Need something solid as well? Get a slice of good bread, toast it and put some of Dr. Bronner’s Magic “All Alone!” Coconut Oil on the slice and GUESS WHAT? You got the start to a healthy great day!
