Question & Thought for the last day of November 2013!!!

Good Saturday Morning! The AND is from a thinker who has always made me smile and think. Having a beer with him was & is fun!
1. Question – Do you believe more medicine = better health?
2. Thought – The authors of this Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) study found that women who’d had more than 25 prescriptions – over an average period of 17 years – had more than twice the risk of breast cancer than women who had not taken any antibiotics. However, even women who had between one and 25 prescriptions over that same period had an increased risk; they were about one and a half times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than women who hadn’t taken any antibiotics.

Question & Thought and AND for November 29th, 2013!!!

Good Friday Morning! (Check out the new book section on this web site)

1. Question – Many moons ago as I was saying prayers with one of my boys and he asked me, “Dad, explain forever. I can’t understand how big forever is. What’s forever?” Yesterday, I came across this thought below and it made me think of that time and question.

2. Thought – November 28. Rest in the deep assurance of My unfailing Love. Let your body, mind, and spirit relax in My Presence. Release into my care anything that is troubling you, so that you can focus your full attention on Me. Be awed by My vast dimensions of My Love for you: wider, longer, higher, and deeper than anything you know. Rejoice that this marvelous Love is yours forever.

The best response to this glorious gift is a life steeped in thankfulness. Every time you thank Me, you acknowledge that I am your Lord and Provider. This is the proper stance for a child of God: receiving with thanksgiving. Bring Me the sacrifice of gratitude, and watch to see how much I bless you. [1 Peter 5:7; Ephesians 3:16-19; Psalm 107:21-22] (From Jesus Calling by Sarah Young)

So, I ask myself, “Does this explain forever?” And I have to say, “No.” So, I still can’t explain forever. But, if I heed this message of continual thankfulness, does it really matter?

AND:+ DOPE:  Street market dope is still being sold…about $150/oz seems to be the going rate in CO.  Our state has now levied taxes on the dope…so by the time you add in overhead for the storefront, labor and personal services to stock and sell, store-bought dope might run in the $200/oz neighborhood.  So you can buy it on the street for roughly a 25% discount.  Where do you think folks will buy?  So, the story was told that legalizing dope would knock off the black market, that we’d tax the heck out of it to make it less attractive, and that taxes collected would build schools.  How we doing so far?  These empty promises made by our socially liberal policy makers sounds oddly familiar to other promises made to pass other national-level policy and law. Misguided thoughts, analysis, and implementation, PERIOD.

Question & Thought for Thanksgiving Day 2013!!!

Happy Thanksgiving 2013!!!

1. Question – Have you ever given George Washington more thought than just history? The more I know about this founder the more American I become.

2. Thought – Thanksgiving Proclamation
President George Washington
City of New York, October 3, 1789

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

George Washington was the only U.S. President who did not attend college. Notice his prose. Wouldn’t you like to meet him someday?

Have a wonderful day!

Question & Thought for November 27th, 2013!!!

Good Wednesday Morning! Careful on the road!

1. Question – How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?

2. Thought – I like the question once asked by Satchel Paige, that venerable alumnus of baseball: “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?” An honest answer to that question depends on an honest admission of one’s attitude. It has nothing to do with one’s age. As someone young at heart has written:

Remember, old folks are worth a fortune – silver in their hair, gold in their teeth, stones in their kidneys, lead in their feet, and gas in their stomachs.

I have become a little older since I saw you last, and a few changes have come into my life since then. Frankly, I have become quite a frivolous old gal. I am seeing 5 gentlemen every day.

As soon as I get up, Will Power helps me get out of bed. Then I go to see John. Then Charlie Horse comes along, and when he is here he takes a lot of my time and attention. When he leaves Arthur Ritis shows up and stays the rest of the day. He doesn’t like to stay in one place very long, so he takes me from joint to joint. After such a busy day I’m really tired and glad to go to bed with Ben Gay. What a life!

P.S. The preacher came to call the other day. He said at my age I should be thinking about the hereafter. I told him, “Oh, I do it all the time. No matter where I am – in the parlor, upstairs, in the kitchen, or down in the basement – I ask myself what am I here after?” (Laugh Again by Charles Swindoll)

Careful traveling! Definitely do not text and drive. Coming home from the gym last night, two people were jogging on the road. Dark clothes and all. Nuts! Take a break every 100 miles of driving. And drive defensively please!
